Bed Bugs are are growing by the millions in New Zealand. Bed Bug's are an epidemic in New Zealand as they are in most countries in the world already. They will continue to hitchhike into peoples homes and attempt to cause infestations. Bed Bugs work on a 'survival of the species' mentality and take any chance they can to infest new areas and produce offspring rapidly to promote their species.
Bed Bugs will 'hitch a ride' into peoples homes to establish an infestation anytime on any moving object. The likely hood of bed bugs hitching a ride and contaminating your home is becoming more common.
Bed bugs are not similar to any other bug on earth. Bed bugs are the longest surviving, oldest surviving insect in the world dating back to the early caveman times when humans were living in caves. Bed bugs originally fed on bats in caves before transferring their preference to cave men and humans. Bed Bugs are present world wide in every country.
Bed Bug Facts:
Regular pest control companies or exterminators can't kill all the bed bugs. A person coming into your home and spraying a solution around will not kill all the bed bugs. Yes the solution will kill the bed bugs that it comes into contact with and will be effective for a period of time (2-4 hours until dried) but it hasn't killed all the bed bugs. There's still bed bugs hiding 10mm-200mm inside the bed or in the drawers of the chest or bedside cabinets or wardrobe, in the cracks of the wooden furniture, on the curtain, on the headboard, inside the lamp, behind or inside the picture on the wall, inside the soft toy, clothes in the wardrobe, light shade on the ceiling, linen cupboard, under the carpet.. you get the idea. The pest exterminator can only kill the bed bugs that come into contact with the wet pesticide - period
Although it seems very convenient to solve your bed bug problem by paying $300-$500 for an exterminator or pest control company to spray your home - the bed bugs only come back.
When you contact the company a couple of weeks later, you will be told that 'You have re introduced bed bugs back into your home' Worst still, the bed bugs that weren't killed were irritated and will now move from their easy to get hiding places, deeper into the walls and insulation or under the underlay to the concrete base or wooden floor boards, they will then infest these areas faster as they feel under threat and need to promote their species at a faster rate, this means the bed bugs require more blood to feed and the blood comes from you.
We know of hundreds of cases where people have used Pest Control companies to eliminate bed bugs but only make the problem worse. We hear about this from customers every day..
Fly spray can't kill bed bugs. Fly spray applied directly to a bed bug will have no effect other than slowing it down for a few minutes, it is immune. Bed bug's have a tolerance to all chemicals used in fly sprays and most other insecticides. Between 1950 and 1970 bed bugs were almost wiped out worldwide due to heavy toxic chemical treatments to eradicate them. Unfortunately the bed bugs that survived built up an extreme immunity or chemical resistance to chemicals. The minority of bed bugs that survived grew to their billions to become a worldwide epidemic known as 'super bed bugs'. This is the current form of all bed bugs today
Bug bombs can't kill all bed bugs. Although slightly more effective than fly spray, triggering a 'bug bomb' in your home will simply not reach all the bed bugs, it will kill a small number but will irritate the remaining bed bugs which force them deeper into hiding to escape the irritation. Under carpets, inside walls and insulation etc
Natural remedies, oils, other liquids can't kill bed bugs. Do not use any products that you think will kill bed bugs - they won't. Bed Bugs have been around for over 2500 years for a reason. In many cases - due to a lack of knowledge, people make their bed bug situation worse by using these products
Despite claims from many manufacturers that their product are the 'complete solution' to killing bed bugs. This can only be true if the product kills all the bed bugs on the premises. This can only be possible by decontaminating and killing every last bed bug. if one bed bug remains - a whole infestation will begin

Bed Bugs multiply fast. Infestations are rapid
One or two Bed Bugs will quickly cause an infestation
If you suspect you may have bed bugs or have been bitten, you need to act fast, large infestations can take just a few weeks to occour. The following is an example of just how fast a bed bug infestation can mainifest in your home:
One female bed bug can lay up to 12 eggs per day. For this example let's work on 10 eggs per day. After hatching the young female bed bugs begin reproducing eggs within a few weeks time (depending on environment, temperature and the amount of blood they suck from their victims)
If one single female bed bug produces 280 eggs in a 4 week period, the 280 eggs may produce around 140 females which within a short time begin reproducing.
140 bed bugs producing eggs at a rate of 10 eggs a day is 9800 eggs per week or 39,000 eggs per month, this is now a massive and very fast infestation in your home.
In order to reproduce these female bed bugs must have blood meals, this is blood that they source from you, your family, your guests and your pets.

Contrary to their name, Bed Bugs hide not only in your bed. They quickly infest bedding, wall cavities, under skirting boards, under carpets, power points, light switches, furniture, cushions, televisions, remotes, lamps, computers, stereos, clothing, toys etc. Even the cat and dog are not immune from becoming a home for bed bugs
